Vital Spirit is a nine-foot bronze sculpture by Pacific Northwest artist Gerard Tsutakawa, unveiled at Seattle Stadium's North Plaza to commemorate the venue's role as a FIFA World Cup 2026 host site and to anchor the Seattle Unity Loop.
A Nine-Foot Symbol of Unity
Created by celebrated sculptor Gerard Tsutakawa, Vital Spirit is a TIG-welded, silicon bronze abstraction of a human figure, standing nine feet tall with a permanent dark blue-black patina. The piece was unveiled April 27, 2026, at a ceremony attended by city and stadium leaders, community partners, and donors.
A Permanent Home at Lumen Field
The Washington State Public Stadium Authority accepted Vital Spirit into its permanent Public Art Program collection, joining a small group of Tsutakawa sculptures that now mark Seattle's three biggest sports venues: Lumen Field, T-Mobile Park, and Climate Pledge Arena.
Anchoring the Unity Loop
Vital Spirit serves as the southern anchor and starting point of the Seattle Unity Loop, the 4-plus-mile curated public art path connecting Pioneer Square, the Chinatown-International District, Belltown, Central District, and Capitol Hill — ensuring the sculpture's presence continues to draw visitors through Seattle's neighborhoods for years to come.
